Releasing Potential’s NVQ Level 3 course in ‘The Management of Challenging Behaviour’ will run on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th November 2017 & Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th January 2018. This four-day course is the only training of its kind registered on the National Qualification Framework. The training engages with current theories and offers practical strategies to those working with young people in a range of contexts; it aims to allow learners to better manage problem behaviours and develop meaningful interventions in their professional context.
Unlike other courses, 'The Management of Challenging Behaviour' focuses on professional practice and not government policy. We are a specialist school for children who have been excluded from mainstream education; our course tutors are experts in frontline delivery to children and young people with severe behavioural difficulties and emotional vulnerabilities.
Formal qualifications are not a requirement for the course, but learners are required to be working with children or young people in their professional role. The qualification is assessed based on a portfolio of evidence from professional practice, including reflective statements, group presentations, in-class activities and practice observations from senior colleagues at work. Portfolios can take between 6 and 18 months to complete after attending the four-day training but 12 months is the indicative timescale for completion. Full support and guidance in the form of tutorials, web and telephone access to tutors and work placement opportunities (where necessary) will be given to any candidates undertaking the course. The course is suitable for practitioners from classroom assistant level to senior management.
In order to take part in the course and complete the assessment, students need to be working regularly with young people; they also need the capacity to make detailed reflections on their own practice, and to contribute to discussions and group activities on the course. Assessment can be submitted in a range of media, for example video and audio recordings, but a good basic level of literacy is needed.
The course will be held at our Chichester school site; it includes four days in the classroom, with tutorial support (via web, telephone and in person) and the opportunity for placement work, resulting in an NVQ3 qualification. The course is subsidised by Releasing Potential Ltd and the cost has been reduced to £600 per candidate inclusive of VAT.
